'BERARD-APPROVED' AIT INSTRUCTOR POLICY
Stephen M. Edelson, Ph.D. and Guy Berard, M.D. (July 4, 2003)
See also our FAQ Page.
Instructors are:
a. to accept students with the following credentials:
i. A Master’s degree or higher in a related area (or foreign equivalent);
or a Bachelors degree and 5 years of related experience.
ii. Individuals who may not meet the above qualifications but may
be good candidates as AlT practitioners based on their specific training
and experience in a related area, such as occupational therapists,
physical therapists with sensory integration training or work with
developmental disabilities.
b. to give their students one or more examinations to determine
whether or not they truly understand the Berard method of AIT:
i. The instructors will keep a copy of the exams for their records
and send a copy of the exams to Sally Brockett for her records
c. to set up an ‘internship’ program in which the practitioners’
first 15 clients who are able to perform the audio tests are followed
closely and reviewed by the instructor. In addition, the instructors
will require their students to complete a questionnaire, the ‘client
questionnaire', for each one of these 15 clients. The questionnaire
will ask them to describe how well the client responded to the listening
sessions and how well the client responded two to three months later.
i. Copies of the audiograms, along with filter settings, and client
questionnaires will be sent to Sally Brockett for her records.
d. to inform Sally Brockett and Dr. Berard of newly trained practitioners.
Instructors will provide the practitioners’ contact information by
completing a form on the Internet (or fax a form). This information
will be sent to Dr. Berard and Sally Brockett.
Name and contact information for Berard-approved AlT practitioners
will be placed on Dr. Berard’s website--if the new practitioner wants
to be listed.
Instructors will inform their students that the Berard AlT method
can only be applied to the two Berard approved AlT devices--the AudioKinetron
and the Earducator. When purchasing an AudioKinetron or an Earducator,
the practitioner must provide the distributor with a certificate indicating
that he/she has completed the AlT training course by a Berard-approved
instructor.
The other AlT devices currently available are not recommended because
they differ from the AudioKinetron and the Earducator.
The person’s status as a “Berard-approved" Instructor may be
withdrawn if the person is not actively training practitioners (i.e.,
trained less than three new practitioners in a one-year period), if
they are not meeting the guidelines outlined in this policy, and/or
if they are not adhering to the Berard method within their practice.
Please note: the above is an abbreviated form of the policy.
Berard-Approved AIT Practitioners who wish to acquire Berard-Approved
Instructor status should contact Sally Brockett or Dr. Berard for full
information on these requirements.
